Mauritius Kestrel - Our Zwazo Nasional (National Bird)

The Mauritius Kestrel will be declared as our Zwazo Nasional (National Bird) on 12 March 2022, on the 30th anniversary of the accession of Mauritius to the status of Republic.

The Kestrel is an endemic species unique to Mauritius and its rescue from extinction is one of the greatest conservation success stories in Mauritius. The Bank, through the SEE environment initiatives, is proud to be associated to this laudable cause. Over many years, Standard Bank has been the Mauritius Kestrel Wildlife Species Champion and supporting the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation’s (MWF) effort to rescue the Mauritius Kestrel from extinction.
